Endometrium

Home / Endometrium
The endometrium is a layer of tissue that lines the uterus. In an adult female, the endometrium thickens and renews itself every month, preparing for pregnancy. If there is no pregnancy, the endometrium sheds in a process known as menstruation.

Quality of an endometrium depends upon:

1

thickness

2

blood flow

3

volume

4

appearance in echogenicity

Stratum Basalis, also known as the basal layer, forms the base of the endometrium, while the functional layer consists of the Stratum Spongiosum and Stratum Compactum. During menstruation, both of these functional layers shed.
When should one opt for IVF?
Under fertility treatment, the endometrium is classified as too thin or too thick. A thin endometrium can also be a sign of decreased fertility. According to the Radiological Society Of North America (RSNA), the endometrium is the thinnest during menstruation, measuring around 2-4 mm. If conception takes place, the embryo gets implanted into the endometrium.

Endometrial conditions that may impact fertility include

1

Infection

2

Adenomyosis

3

Endometrial Polyp

4

Endometriosis

5

Luteal Phase Lpd

6

Endometrial Thickness

7

Asherman’s Syndrome
