EMBRYO

Home / Embryo
An embryo is the result of the union of an egg with sperm. One of the primary predictors of IVF success is embryo quality which is directly dependent on the quality of the sperm and the egg. High-quality embryos that are genetically healthy and have normal development are more likely to lead to a successful pregnancy.

The quality of an embryo is evaluated based on the factors listed below

1

The number of cells in an embryo

2

The size, structure and appearance of the cells

3

The degree of expansion of the embryo

4

The embryo selection

Selecting only the healthiest embryo for transfer can increase the chances of success in each cycle and decrease the likelihood of a miscarriage. The embryo quality is also associated with adverse outcomes for the pregnancy. As lower-quality embryos are more likely to result in a miscarriage. Further, poor-quality embryos have been shown to correlate with a significantly higher risk of low birth weight.

At IVFcare.in., we use an advanced embryo grading system that helps us determine which embryo to transfer and freeze. Research shows that successful day-3 embryos have eight or more cells. Day 3 embryos are typically graded between 1-5, with 1 as the best score. When an embryo reaches Day 5, it is considered a blastocyst. Day 5 blastocysts are graded on their degree of expansion on a scale of 1-6, 6 being the most developed embryo.
